In our report, The Perfect Storm: Why Video Conferencing Will Dominate Business Communications, we discussed several important reasons why video conferencing will finally grow outside the niche it exists today in the pantheon of business communications. Here's one more reason.
[[High definition video]] conference uses high quality audio communications. HD video conference sessions are endpoint-to-endpoint DIRECT. They don't pass through PSTN gateways that squeeze the audio quality to the lowest common denominator (your gateway's DSP settings), so the audio is generally full bodied and higher audio sampling than what you get on your IP PBX VoIP phone.
My experiments with HD video sessions shows audio quality in the 100 kbps range which is 65% more information than classic telephone voice calls.
