Surely there’s more to Dual Mode (which might include WiFI-GSM) than simply operator bypass?
Yes, says Emmy Johnson in the September issue of BCR.
Emmy agrees with my suggestion that the dual-mode market will go nowhere until service providers find a way to profit from the implementation. In this article, Johnson proposes a multi-radio architecture that service providers could deploy to effectively leverages their investment in licensed spectrum, licensed spectrum radios and unlicensed spectrum radios.
I like this kind of design because then the service provider could concentrate GSM services in low density, high mobility environments (freeways for example), and concentrate WiFi deployment in shopping malls, airports and the like where there is high density users and low (relatively) mobility.
