Google Predicts 18-20 Andriod Phones by YE2009

Google claims momentum at application developer conference

Google seems to have skirted the censorship and control criticisms that the Apple iPhone App Store and the Microsoft Mobile store have attracted by offering three free ‘flavors’ of Android. According to the NY Times, there are:

  1. obligation-free – download and use but do not preload GMail or Google Calendar onto the device. That’s what option 2 is for.
  2. small strings-attached – download and sign a distribution agreement to include all the Google applications.
  3. no-censorship version – this is the ‘Google Experience’ including the Google logo on the device. The range of applications included are not to be removed, and the operator and manufacturer agree not to censure the applications in the Android store.
